Before adopting Dachshund puppies, be aware of their temperament and personality. Bred to hunt badgers in Germany, the Dachshund is a full blooded hound. Doxie pups can be mischievous, so be careful when you turn your back on them! This breed is a pack animal and thrives on companionship with either humans or adults – they do not like being locked up or isolated from the family. Consider this if you work long hours away from home or travel and cannot take your pet with you.

Another trait you might see with your Dachshund puppy is digging. If you plan to spend much time out in the yard or garden with your puppy, be aware of their tendency to dig. House training the Doxie can be a challenge and this breed is notorious for urinating when excited or being submissive. Make sure you have the patience to deal with potty training your new puppy.
